This Core Lecture series talk, introduced by drawing faculty and Assistant Professor of Practice Christine Garvey, will look at drawing as a powerful language of questioning. From the first recorded marks of cave paintings, to Galileo’s drawings of the moon, these examples and others will help us consider the uniquely-human impulse to draw what we see, and drawing's evolution as a tool for expression and inquiry. Garvey will share her approach to drawing in her own work, including her 2016 Fulbright research at Florence's La Specola museum.

The AAH Core Program is a year-long experience that transforms individual incoming students into a connected community of aspiring artists, art historians, and art educators. The AAH Core Program’s purpose is to afford students in all degree programs — Art History, Studio Art, and UTeach Art — a primer in technical proficiencies and conceptual competencies to assist in their eventual entry into the various professional fields of visual art.
