Please join us for a talk with Jagath Weerasinghe, an artist from Sri Lanka known for engaging with various social and personal issues. Taking these thoughts and themes into a global perspective, he has recently expanded the narrative to relate to the subjects of migration and displacement. “Currently the world is experiencing a major civilizational crisis played out as mass migration – millions of people are forced to leave behind their ‘lives’ and ‘memories’. For everyone that has ‘left a place’, there are so many others who are ‘left behind’.”

He holds a Master of Fine Arts from American University in Washington DC. He is the co-founder of Theertha International Artists Collective and the moving force behind collaborations such as the Colombo Art Biennale. Weerasinghe has just retired from the long-held position as the Head of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology but continues to work as Consultative Director for mural painting conservation for World Heritage sites in Sri Lanka.
