Using imagery taken from historical caricatures of Japanese figures, Teruko Nimura’s work addresses the complex politics of cultural identity and collective memory. Her finely crafted ink drawings, paper cuts, and haunting installations challenge the simplicity of stereotypes while balancing between personal identification and critique.

Her work investigates cultural heritage, identity, collective memory and interconnectedness. She has exhibited nationally and in Mexico, and was recently included in the 2017 TX Biennial. She received her BFA from San Francisco Art Institute and her MFA from UT Austin in 2009. She is currently based in Austin, TX.
