Anne Ellegood has been the Good Works Executive Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) since September 2019. She was Senior Curator at the Hammer Museum from 2009-2019, and has held curatorial posts at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden and the New Museum of Contemporary Art. She has organized numerous group exhibitions, including Made in L.A. 2018, Take It or Leave It: Institution, Image, Ideology (2014), All of this and nothing (2011), and The Uncertainty of Objects and Ideas: Recent Sculpture (2006). In 2017, Ellegood organized the first North American retrospective of the work of Jimmie Durham for the Hammer, which traveled to the Walker Art Center, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Remai Modern in Saskatoon. She has curated solo exhibitions with Kevin Beasley, Latifa Echakhch, Charles Gaines, Yunhee Min, My Barbarian, John Outterbridge, Frances Upritchard, and Lily van der Stokker, among many others. Ellegood is currently co-organizing an exhibition with Connie Butler titled Witch Hunt, which will present the work of fifteen mid-career feminist artists, opening this fall at ICA LA and the Hammer Museum. Ellegood received her MA in Curatorial Practice from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and was a 2020 Fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership.
Thomas J. Lax is Curator of Media and Performance at MoMA (NY) where he is currently preparing the exhibition Just Above Midtown: 1974 to the Present with Linda Goode Bryant. He also worked with colleagues across MoMA on a major rehang of the museum’s collection and organized Unfinished Conversations. Previously, he worked at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
Thomas is on the board of Danspace Project and the Jerome Foundation and teaches at Wesleyan University’s Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance. He is on the advisory committees of organizations including Contemporary And, The Laundromat Project, Participant Inc., and Recess Assembly.
