A group of first-year art education students planned family-friendly art activities for the Lila Downs performance back in October that tied into Dia Los Muertos.

The students came up with, planned, and delivered three art-making activities: origami-folded monarch-styled butterflies and tissue paper marigolds in honor of a loved one, along with a spirit-animal "mash up" in the tradition of the alebrije. Participants were invited to take what they made or to contribute to a community ofrenda.

They worked with Brenda Simms (Education Manager), Tim Rogers (Director of Education and Engagement), and Aubrey Felty (Emerging Arts Professional, Education and Engagement) of Texas Performing Arts.
