In June of 2018, alumna Emily Edwards (BFA in Art History, 2015) joined the Dallas Contemporary as a Curatorial Assistant. As one of her first curatorial projects, Edwards has curated It Is Impossible to Cover the Sun with a Finger, a solo presentation of the work of El Paso-based artist Margarita Cabrera. It was recently named as one of Artforum's Critic's Picks for noteworthy exhibitions in the Dallas area.
"Reading these individuals’ desires, woven with colorful thread into in a material symbol of the power of the United States, the viewer is compelled to reflect on the thoughts and motives of those driven to make the dangerous and uncertain journey," writes Artforum contributor Matthew Bourbon. "Cabrera humanizes an issue that is too easily depersonalized in our fractious political climate."
It Is Impossible to Cover the Sun with a Finger will be on view from January 26 - March 17, 2019.
