The College of Fine Arts is partnering with the Moody College of Communication and McCombs School of Business to create “UT in New York” or UTNY, a new program that brings UT students to New York City for a semester to study and pursue internships, valuable connections and experiences to propel them into their professional careers. UT in New York (UTNY) will host its inaugural class in fall 2019.
“New York has an enormous gravitational pull, and our students need opportunities to make connections, mix it up, and get a perch on the professional world,” writes Jack Risley, chair of the Department of Art and Art History. “The UT in New York program is perfect for jump-starting a life in the arts.”
Created as a partnership between the Moody College of Communication, McCombs School of Business and the College of Fine Arts, the program is modeled after the success of the UT in Los Angeles Program (UTLA). UTNY is designed as a professional launchpad for undergraduate seniors and juniors and will allow students to continue their studies in their academic majors while working and living in one of the most dynamic cities and cultural centers in the world. Student housing options will be provided in Manhattan and in Brooklyn, and UTNY participation costs will be comparable with those of the university’s study abroad programs. As a partnership between three schools, UTNY offers the unique experience of New York City as an interdisciplinary community of UT Austin students.
Students will have the opportunity to pursue professional internships directly related to their career interests and build valuable contacts and experience. Working with internship advisors, students will identify and arrange internships well in advance of arriving in New York. Students will be able to apply to participate in the fall, spring and summer semesters.
