The Art Education Research Institute (AERI) is holding its second annual research symposium at Northern Illinois University’s Naperville campus Oct. 19-21, 2017. AERI is comprised of higher educators who are actively involved in the production of research and scholarship in visual arts education.

Dr. Christina Bain will be co-presenting "Extrapolate: An Action Research Study Examining the Utilization of a Game in Preservice Preparation." As an Associate Professor of Art Education at The University of Texas at Austin, her research examines the preparation and development of art teachers, both at the preservice and inservice levels, with topics including the development of teacher identity, curricular development, technology integration, arts integration, and material culture.

Dr. Paul Bolin will also be presenting at the AERI research symposium. He will be presenting, "Fostering a Divide in Art Education: The Centennial Exhibition of 1876." Professor of Art Education, Bolin has researched the historical issues within the field of art education, and particularly matters of art and public schooling in the late nineteenth century.

In addition to the AERI symposium, new Art Education Lecturer Dr. Rina Kundu Little is presenting a public lecture at the Miami University Art Museum on Oct. 10, 2017 entitled, "Sculpture: From the Representational to the Experiential." The talk investigates what happens to sculpture as art
moves away from its representational, interpretive, and narrative function to one that is social, durational, and performative. Little will also be leading an educational workshop for docents on place-based art education in relation to new sculptural acquisitions received from the Myaamia Nation.
